Five big blinds in early position is the spot where the familiar "premium only from UTG" logic stops working. The stack melts within an orbit, there is almost no fold equity left, and Nash equilibrium stretches the shove to 43 hands — nearly 20% of all combos.
Push from EP, 5 BB stack
The range holds every pair from 22, suited aces from A3s, offsuit aces from A9o, kings from K8s and KJo — and, what surprises players most, the connectors JTs and T9s along with QJo. At 5 BB these hands shove even into seven opponents behind you: their equity against calling ranges is enough, and the alternative is burning up in the blinds starting next hand.
There is still a line, though. Weak offsuit hands like A8o and below, Q9o, J9o are folds: you will get called almost every time, and domination eats your equity. Mucking the bottom costs less than it feels like — a 5 BB shove rarely gets through without a showdown.
One warning: this chart is for a full table with no antes. With antes the range gets even wider, and on the bubble some hands go back into the muck — see the ICM adjustments chart.
